Great success for the 8th edition of the Venice International Dragon Boat Festival
PRESS RELEASE 7 June 2022
Great success for the 8th edition of the Venice International Dragon Boat Festival
with its mood of cultural and sport friendship among the 16 participating crews.
Many of them were from abroad, and also took part in Venice’s famous “Vogalonga” on Sunday 5 June.
The 8th edition of the Venice International Dragon Boat Festival started regularly on Saturday 4 June. It was the first complete edition in a post-pandemic climate. Although the Festival was held both in 2020 and in 2021, it was under very different conditions. The 2022 Festival saw 16 registered crews compete against each other, 14 of which came from abroad.
To complete the venetian experience, the 4 French, 4 English, 2 Italian, 2 American, 2 Arab, 1 Czech and 1 German crew also took part in the 46th edition of the “Vogalonga”, the traditional non-competitive rowing event that covers Venice and the northern lagoon.
The Festival program saw the regattas divided into 5 categories: Amateur, Breast Cancer Survivors (BCS), Men, Women and Mixed.
The 1st classification for each category went to the following crews:
• Amateurs: Les Copains A Bord (FRA)
• BCS: Linked in Pink Bcs (USA)
• Men: Emirates Airline EK Dragon Boat Club (UAE)
• Women: Pink Champagne Breast Cancer Survivors DB (UK)
• Mixed: TYPHOON Dragon Boat Club (UK)
\\\"It was a great return to normal events before Covid. We were very lucky to find some beautiful days. The participants were enthusiastic, thanks also to an impeccable organisation\\\" said Andrea Bedin, President of the Venice Canoe and Dragon Boat Club, organiser of the event. The Festival is a unique moment of sport and folklore, and brings together crews enthusiastic about experiencing Venice and its Lagoon from this singular perspective.
The organisers also wish to thank the “Costantino Reyer Sports Center” where the event was hosted, the Municipality of Venice, the Water Authority of Venice, the Regional Auxiliary Coast Guard and of course the Veneto Region which recognised the cultural value of the event.
